Veronica Lee, The Arts Desk, 24th January 2020Impressionist Matt Forde offers some Brexit relief
Although Forde's commentary is clever, it's the impressions that really entertain, so we wish there were more -- actually, a lot more -- of them peppered throughout the show. The commentary is good, but at times sinks into complex monologues which last slightly too long and get too serious, compared to the whimsy of the fantastic impersonations.
Hannah Foulds, Londonist, 22nd January 2020Live review: Matt Forde - Brexit, Pursued by a Bear
At one point in the gig a joke is so poorly received that Forde admits he won't be doing it the following night, and depressingly I found myself wishing that had applied to about 90% of the material he did this evening.
Alex Finch, Comedy To Watch, 21st January 2020The comic the next Labour leader could learn a lot from
Forde's hour-long routine is jam-packed with crisply comedic analysis and uncanny mimicry, although at times it feels as if you're listening to Tony Blair's cheeky younger brother. It is safe to say more than 48 per cent of his Monday-night audience were Remainers, but he offers much for Brexiteers to enjoy too. If Labour's next leader wants to reconnect with the party's lost voters, they need to bring back Forde and learn how to deliver their shtick with his charm and humour.
