In his first stand-up show since 2010, The Office co-creator sometimes hits the mark in this special as he shows off his fierce talent and divisive humour.

Ricky Gervais: Humanity review

In Humanity, he's still on politically incorrect territory. But his fifth show is also his most mature yet, not by sacrificing crassness, but by giving it context.

#EdFringe17: Sophie Duker is a Manic Pixie Dream Girl

Enjoy 15 minutes of stand-up and chat with rising star, Sophie Duker. Hailing from an improv background, 'performing with posh white boys at university', she more recently made the 'exciting' leap into stand-up comedy. During the Edinburgh Fringe, Sophie is part of the prestigious 'Pleasance Comedy Reserve' and, on the Free Fringe, the 'Manic Pixie Dream Girls'.

Review - Ricky Gervais: Humanity

Ricky Gervais caused a minor media stir recently, when a grieving couple decried his routine about a hypothetical dead baby. Tweeting afterwards about offence, the comic struck me as theoretically correct but insensitive - surely discretion should be the better part of valour and he could spare them the distress of continuing the argument beyond the stage. Yet the incident, which went unmentioned in this Glasgow show, neatly illustrates Humanity's core preoccupation and George Carlin's maxim that it's the comedian's duty to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately.
