Hi Lucy. Who are you and what do you do in comedy?

I'm Lucy. I'm a Writer and Director who has also been known to step in front of the camera and Act as well. I write sitcoms and features, mainly satire and dark comedy, but I also love writing films about women throughout time who have accomplished incredible things, yet been left out of our History books.

Tell us about how you first became involved in the comedy world.

I started out in film very young, attending the New York film Academy fresh out of school, but it wasn't until a few years later I discovered my talents mainly lay in Comedy. I love stand-up but my gift is really Writing and Directing. In 2021 I filmed my first Sitcom Pilot, and thankfully, the festival scene loved it.

Tell us about your comedy favourites.

Oh where to begin! I didn't grow up watching Nickelodeon like a normal child, perhaps if other kids were in the house, but when it was just me it would be the much older classics (a bit strange for a seven-year-old and far too much swearing!) Ab Fab, the Carry On films, Last of the Summer Wine, Father ted, The Vicar of Dibley, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, Dads Army, Dinner ladies, Black Adder- I could go on all day! More recent loves include, Parks and Rec, Arrested Development, This country, The office (US Version,) Motherland, Cunk on Earth and of course; Schitt's creek.

The comedy industry is competitive. Why should people pick you to work with?

I mean, I could list some personal attributes, but to cut to the chase: we all have a limited amount of time on this Earth and we all have different callings, or feelings of purpose. My calling is to make people laugh, bring them joy, and help them connect to themselves and others. I hope by the time I'm done with the Comedy industry, it will be far less competitive and more teamwork-focused.

What's the best advice you've ever been given, read or heard?

Who are you, and what do you want? Once you've established those two questions, which by the way, is not that easy, the world becomes your playground and you can start to take positive steps forward towards whatever reality you wish to create for yourself and live in alignment with.

Where would you like to be in 10 years' time?

I would like to have written a few more shows, and done a couple of features either in the UK or USA. Perhaps published a couple of my books as well. I also have a Social Enterprise and want to do a lot more for people wanting to break into the industry.

If you ever get free time, how do you spend it?

Is this a British Comedy Guide joke? haha- I have no idea. If I ever have spare time I will let you know. For now my focus is getting to where I need to be and if that means working seven days a week, so be it. When I was younger if I had spare time it would either be spent with my head stuck in a book, out with my animals, or doing something ludicrous that I thought would make friends laugh.

If you ever get free time, how do you spend it?

The death of fossil fuels.
