Toast Of London Series 3, Episode 6 preview

Matt Berry's Steven Toast manages to annoy Jude Law, Martin Freeman and other top actors in the final episode of Series 3.

Ben Dowell, Radio Times, 23rd December 2015

Radio Times review

It's business as usual for the final episode, which is to say moments of brilliance and stretches that go a bit tepid. But that's the deal with Toast: you put up with the iffy bits for the occasional dash of comic glory you wouldn't find anywhere else.

Our luckless curmudgeon gets a job at the Globe in a production of Twelfth Night by radical director Daz Klondyke. It's to be performed by a cast of dogs as "a metaphor for what's happening in Syria". Yes, it's daft, but if you want an idea of the series' celebrity fans, look out for cameos from Jude Law, Martin Freeman, Sheila Hancock and others. They're all basically agreeing that Toast is, as Sam Mendes puts it, "a colossal t**t".

Hang on - a few weeks ago, Miranda Hart appeared on the show to promote her new comedy-action film Spy, and tonight co-stars Jude Law and Melissa McCarthy show up too. Norton must really like that film. McCarthy became a top Hollywood leading woman after her role in Bridesmaids and has signed on to appear as Tinkerbell in a comedy about Peter Pan characters, which sounds promising. Chris Pratt is also invited, to discuss his role in Jurassic World.

Plus there's music from Florence + the Machine (remember them?) and at the comedy end of the sofa, John Bishop, who at the Baftas described the bearded Norton as looking like the love-child of Father Christmas and Louis Walsh. Harsh.

The Vote was dull compared to the real election

For thrills, I would take that exit poll over Judi Dench and Jude Law any day.

Miranda Hart to star in Hollywood spy comedy

Miranda Hart has signed up to star in a Hollywood movie. She will appear alongside Jude Law in a film from Bridesmaids director Paul Feig.

Only Graham Norton could ever come up with such an eclectic range of guests - global megastar Lady Gaga, actor Jude Law, comedian Greg Davies and EastEnders' Dot Branning (or rather the actress who plays her, June Brown). Who will flirt with whom, we wonder?

Lady Gaga was on the show back in 2011, dressed in an extraordinary Bride of Frankenstein-type outfit. She was last spotted in a fur mask with a gold beak on a tour to promote her new album. Tabloid favourite Law talks about his new gangster film Dom Hemingway, Davies's current sitcom Man Down (9.30pm C4) is winning him laughs and acclaim, while Brown discusses her autobiography.

Alison Graham, Radio Times, 8th November 2013

Mr Norton is spreading his guest net wide tonight in a bid to lure viewers away from chatty rival Alan Carr. He's got the national treasure spot covered with Dame Judi Dench, Hollywood allure with Mila Kunis and James Franco - stars of Oz The Great And Powerful - and home-grown acting talent courtesy of Jude Law, promoting new movie Side Effects. Then there's Olly Murs, taking a belated tilt at musical credibility with new single Army Of Two.

James Corden and Jude Law set for Olivier Awards battle

Gavin and Stacey star James Corden is up against Jude Law for a prestigious theatrical award.

Robert Downey Jr was last on the show in 2009, promoting Guy Ritchie's film Sherlock Holmes. He declared it "the strangest show I've ever been on" as Norton turned his back on the star and played around on his laptop for several minutes.

Downey Jr then had to use a flannel to wipe custard-pie foam off the face of fellow guest, comedian Ed Byrne, before listening to Will Young singing.

None of this seems to have put him off returning to talk about Ritchie's sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, although this time he's got his Watson (Jude Law) to keep him company, and plenty else to talk about in the form of his second child, who's due in February.
