Jason Manford to make stage debut in Sweeney Todd

Former presenter of The One Show will take role of Adolfo Pirelli at London's Adelphi theatre in four weeks before the Olympics.

Matt Trueman, The Guardian, 6th March 2012

Jimeoin (pronounced Jim-own) is an Irish-Australian comedian bigger Down Under than he is here. From the minute host Jason Manford hands over to him, he has the audience in the palm of his hand with splendid physical comedy involving impersonations of how different birds land. You think his impression of the way a swan flashes its wings about is good, but his wide-boy pigeon is even better. Then he tops both showing how chickens "walk like they're in a minefield." It's downhill from there but it's a cracking start.

More stand-up comedy in front of the big lit-up logo at the Hammersmith theatre. Hosting proceedings is Mancunian wit and former One Show host Jason Manford, who tells anecdotes about parenting and pokes fun at boy band McFly, who foolishly sit in the front row. Manford also introduces sets by gruff Canadian Tom Stade and gentle Northern Irish observationist Jimeoin, who does an amusing line in avian impressions.

Here's a sneering corrective if you're worried about all that enforced merriment to come. Sean Lock hosts this Christmas edition of the comic debate show. Plus there's the sight of Robert Webb, Seann Walsh, Jason Manford and Micky Flanagan acting like five argumentative, drunken uncles souring the mood at the family lunch.

Despite the debating society format, most topics dissolve into blokey, filthy banter - all right, they start out pretty blokey and filthy. You may not come away imbued with festive spirit, but at least Sean Lock reveals Santa's true appearance - a cross between the X-Men's Wolverine and Peter Crouch. Watch out for him this Christmas, kids!

It's been a funny old year and Jason Manford and Alistair McGowan intend to milk it for laughs while they still can with a whole bunch of (mostly) family friendly topical gags that haven't had an airing yet on all those other topical comedy shows and are in danger of passing their sell-by date if they don't get used up soon.

Yes, it's Mock The Year, ITV style, with Phillip Schofield as host, plus a round-up of clips that made us laugh on the web - counted down by Come Dine with Me's Dave Lamb.

One comedian who had an excellent 2011 is Patrick Monahan, winner of ITV1's Show Me The Funny. He does well here, while we can only assume headliner Jason Byrne didn't get the email saying his material was supposed to be about 2011.

And don't miss tenor Alfie Boe with a performance that provides the best surprise of the night.

Jane Simon, The Mirror, 20th December 2011

The return of this annual comedy special, which sees comedians deliver their verdict on the past year. Jason Manford, Alistair McGowan, Jason Byrne and Patrick Monahan join silvery-haired, perma-smiling host Phillip Schofield to run through their highs, lows, loves and loathes of the past 12 months. There's also an appearance from much-loved West End tenor Alfie Boe.

Jason Manford: How showbiz are you?

The former One Show host and 8 Out of 10 Cats panellist may be one of Britain's best loved funnymen and seem like an ideal drinking buddy, but has fame gone to his head? It's time to find out as we put him through his showbiz paces.

Jason Manford interview: "My uncle is funnier than me"

Jason Manford is a natural born comic who has just made hundreds of thousands of strangers piss themselves laughing on a nationwide sell-out tour that finishes this evening...

Stephen Tudor, Sabotage Times, 2nd December 2011

At this point I should say that not only have I never watched this programme before, but I've never watched or listened to any of Chris Moyles' shows (for that matter I've never listened to Radio 1). As a result I was somewhat hesitant at watching Chris Moyles' Quiz Night, but as there were no other new comedy programmes on I had to make do.

For those who have also never seen the show before, each edition features Moyles taking part in a quiz against three celebrity guests. The audience beforehand vote for who they think will win and those who pick the winner win a share of £1,000 (on this week's edition the money won by everyone equalled £21 each). The player who comes last has to sing out the show.

When I spotted the panel which consisted of Jason Manford, Jeremy Clarkson and opera singer Katherine Jenkins, I thought that as a panel it was okay, although I can't help but think that it sounds like Stewart Lee's idea of hell. Anyone who saw the first episode of his Comedy Vehicle will testify.

However, the other guests who appeared during the questions, including Britney Spears, Robbie Williams and the Sugababes, took it down to the level that I expected from Moyles - cheap and rubbish. This show isn't something that I'd watch again.
