Review: Backchat with Jack Whitehall and his Dad

I do like Backchat. Yes, 45 minutes is too long, even for a Father's Day special. It would have been better tightened up and squeezed into a sharper half-hour.

Sam Wollaston, The Guardian, 16th June 2014

Radio Times review

"Aw Daaad," whines Jack Whitehall, as his old man pelts him with saucy anecdotes in this loosely themed Father's Day special. Between the Timothy Lumsden moments, Jack gets an interviewing masterclass from an on-form Jonathan Ross and shares a "Mrs Robinson moment" with Judy (Andy's mum) Murray.

The quality of the gags tails off badly in the second half, but there's a fun visit to BBC Three's The Call Centre, where Whitehall Senior's bluntness comes in handy on the phones. "I'm ringing about how you could save money on your electricity bill. Although the amount involved seems so ludicrously small, I don't know why one's bothering," he remarks. Give that man a job.

Gary Rose, Radio Times, 15th June 2014
