When Jonathan Ross won the Welcome To ITV Award - sorry, Lifetime Achievement Award - at the NTAs last month, some people joked that it signalled his career was over. And oh, how we all laughed. I'm not laughing any more, though.

Sir David's right royal carve-up

They say timing is everything in comedy. So let's call it a badly timed twist of fate that in the very week Stephen Fry called him 'one of the finest comedy actors in TV history', poor old David Jason had a bit of a 'mare. I speak, of course, of BBC1's The Royal Bodyguard. And I think it's only right and respectful that after today we all agree never to speak of it again.

50 minutes later I'm struck by a sudden realisation. I've never felt as sorry for another human being as I feel for poor Alan Carr right now. Because, unless he puts his foot down and goes with his own instincts, his CV must clearly state he went from The Sunday Night Project to The Sunday Night Reject.
