Harold Snoad obituary: BBC stalwart who directed classic comedies

Snoad's credits ranged from having been a call boy on Hancock's Half Hour to directing Dad's Army. His CV also included directing Are You Being Served? and Derek Nimmo in Oh Brother! and he spent eight years coaxing the best out of the notoriously neurotic Dick Emery.

In Comedy Connections (BBC1) it emerged that Roy Clarke, the writer, and Harold Snoad, the producer/director, were horns locked during its run. The BBC had to bring in a script editor to interpose his innocent body between the combatants.
