Hai Le

Hi Hai. Who are you and what do you do in comedy?

My name is Hai Le, I'm a British Vietnamese Writer & Performer from South East London. I write & perform (acting & stunts), and have just wrote my first sitcom about a charity fundraising call centre.

Tell us about how you first became involved in the comedy world.

I got into comedy as an actor, acting in comedy short films and commercials. I've recently decided that I want to write so that I can create my own worlds and have just finished writing my first sitcom. Fade Out. was one of the most exhilarating thing I've ever wrote!

Tell us about your comedy favourites.

I love TV comedy shows such as Inbetweeners, Friends, After Life, and Chewing Gum and also anything Sacha Baron Cohen related. I'm also into Comedy Films like The Hangover, Superbad, & golden oldies such as Guest House Paradiso.

The comedy industry is competitive. Why should people pick you to work with?

There aren't many East Asian Writers or Performers working in the UK and I feel that I bring a certain voice and knowledge to the table, growing up dealing with certain cultural issues. I have undertaken many training courses, read many books, and believe I have gained the necessary skills to produce high quality work. I have also worked with some of the most amazing people in this industry. Plus I have an excellent mentor who has given me meticulous support.

I am a perfectionist which can sometimes be a good thing/bad thing and I take great pride in the quality of work I produce and firmly believe I will make my mark in this industry.

What's the best advice you've ever been given, read or heard?

Write what you want to see on TV, not what you think other people want.

Where would you like to be in 10 years' time?

I would like to have at least a few shows commissioned and produced on Television. I would like to perform (act), write, and produce those productions.

Hopefully as I build up my writing and producer credits, that could lead to an executive producer role.

If you ever get free time, how do you spend it?

I love gaming and spend time on my Xbox playing online with strangers from all over the world. I particularly enjoy the trash talk online as it gives me a sense of escape from my normal hectic life.

I also like watching the UFC, and I'm a big Manchester United fan (although from London), but I try and get to Old Trafford at least 3 times a season.

If a genie offered you one wish, what would you ask for?

3 more wishes.
