Radio Times review

The Joan Rivers Position, a chat show with a saucy agony-aunt vibe that ran from 2004-06, is ripe for a one-hour retrospective. Partly because Rivers was mourned by the comedy world when she died in September, and this was one of the few UK shows where she was more than a guest. Partly because in all honesty, whole episodes were a chore - but the good bits were sensational.

Take Brigitte Nielsen storming out, coming back after the break, then going again. Or Graham Norton frankly discussing his sex life, including a namecheck for RT that very much didn't make it into any of our marketing materials.

The trailer for the new film about Paddington, the duffel-coat-wearing bear from darkest Peru with a love of marmalade sandwiches, has already irked purists who fear Michael Bond's much-loved children's book character has been "Harry Pottered".

But the film's starry cast have no such worries, and three of them - Nicole Kidman, Julie Walters and Hugh Bonneville - cosy up on Graham Norton's sofa tonight to explain why they were keen to take part and how they believe "the spirit of the books has been preserved, while embracing some of the issues of the present day". Quite how a villainous Cruella de Vil-style taxidermist who wants the bear to be stuffed and mounted fits into that description remains to be seen. There's also music from Take That, who've slimmed down to a three-piece.

Certain glossy magazines just can't stop speculating about Jennifer Aniston's love life. Oh, poor Jen, they wonder, will she ever find happiness after Brad Pitt? Is she still engaged to Justin Theroux? When are they going to marry? Is he scared of commitment? Is this really anyone's business?

So how far will Graham Norton go tonight when Aniston perches on the sofa with Jason Bateman to discuss their new film, Horrible Bosses 2? The frenzy that constantly surrounds Aniston's romantic life has always fogged the fact that she's an estimable light comic actress. Sadly, she's made some rubbish films since Friends ended, and judging by its trailer, Horrible Bosses 2 won't be a twinkling diamond on her CV.

Making a return visit is the mighty Dame Judi Dench, who'll be talking about her book, Behind the Scenes, and Olly Murs will sing his new single.

When Ross has a gathering of guests as good as tonight's, you wish his format allowed them to intermingle out front in the way Graham Norton's guests do. What would Paul Merton say to Paul Hollywood, for instance? Is Keira Knightley much of a baker? Also, after Ross's coup interviewing Tom Daley earlier in the year, he welcomes another gay sporting hero, Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas.

By my count, Miranda Hart has been on Graham Norton's show five times before, so if she has any self-deprecating anecdotes about awkward slapstick moments that she hasn't already shared, she will roll them out tonight. She shares the sofa with Timothy Spall, whose latest performance is as painter JMW Turner in Mike Leigh's biopic. Maroon 5 provide the music.

Graham Norton: why I refused £5m from the BBC

The BBC tried to recruit me for quite some time before I signed my first contract with them in 2005. As long ago as the autumn of 2000, I remember standing in a dark street outside a restaurant in Tokyo while filming a documentary for Channel 4, listening to a breathless agent on the phone telling me that the BBC had offered me £5 million.

Graham Norton: My drunken escapades

He has always been open about his love of alcohol. So much so that Graham Norton has dedicated an entire chapter to his drinking antics which once saw him fall asleep against a lamp-post following a night out.
