Mel & Sue have reunited for a new podcast recalling their worst gigs, exploring the science of comedy, kinks and plenty else besides, as the pair have also teased their next scripted project.

Mel & Sue Should Know By Now launches on Audible today, with the pair reconvening after four years to attempt to plug the gaps in their general knowledge.

However, they are also working on a currently-under-wraps scripted project and another endeavour for later this year, their first substantial work together since their Sky One sitcom Hitmen ended in 2021 after two series.

In January, Mel Giedroyc told Radio 4's Woman's Hour that she and Sue Perkins had "had a lovely time actually before Christmas, we went out to New York together for a week, which was really lovely.

"We were in a workshop, which was so much fun ... Just the two of us and some very lovely writers. It's super, super, super-early days but there may be something that comes out of that.

"Probably not this year ... I'm going to say '26. Possibly, who knows? And we're doing, I hope, I never want to jinx these things, I'm touching all the wood in your studio that I can find, we may be doing something together at the end of [this] year as well."

In the six episodes of Mel & Sue Should Know By Now, the pair explore "the science of bread-making (seriously, what is yeast?) to the mysteries of kink (should we even ask?) and the unspoken rules of packing holiday underwear (is there a golden ratio?)."

Taking turns to explain something that they each don't know, but absolutely, as adults, should, they struggle to fill in each other's blind spots, sharing revelations about their lives, shared history and friendship.

Promising "a mix of nostalgia, absurdity, and personal anecdotes peppered with backstage gossip from their celebrated careers ... no topic is off-limits".

"Thirty-seven years of friendship and the old girl can still make me literally wheeze my lungs up with laughter" said Giedroyc. "I have not had so much fun in ages!"

Perkins added: "I was crying with hysteria and eating crisps throughout. To be honest, I'm still not over the guinea pig story ..."

Giedroyc and Perkins met at a comedy gig in 1988 while studying at the University of Cambridge, where they were members of the Footlights society.

After appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe, they got their television breakthrough on the French & Saunders sketch show, before gaining widespread popularity in 1997 with their Channel 4 lunchtime chat show Light Lunch, which subsequently moved to primetime as Late Lunch. They hit the peak of their double act fame hosting The Great British Bake Off together on BBC One.

Mel & Sue Should Know By Now is Audible's latest podcast commission delivering a new audio format for established comedy acts and characters, following From The Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast and Green Wing Resuscitated.

Last week British Comedy Guide revealed that Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable would not be returning on U&Dave.

The full series is available from Audible from today.
