Jack Whitehall to star in The 'Burbs remake for television
Jack Whitehall is to star in a television adaptation of Tom Hanks' film The 'Burbs.
The comic is one of five additions to the US series, based on the dark 1989 comedy movie, alongside What We Do In The Shadows star Mark Proksch and Girls5eva's Paula Pell, Julia Duffy (Palm Royale) and Kapil Talwalkar (Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist).
Whitehall and singer-actor Keke Palmer play a young couple in the remake for US channel Peacock, reluctantly relocating to his childhood home in present-day suburbia, entertainment site Variety reports.
The official description for the series adds: "Their world is upended when a new neighbour moves in across the street bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighbourhood."
One Of Them Days and Scream Queens star Palmer is executive producing the adaptation of the film, which starred Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher and Corey Feldman, with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and the film's writer Dana Olsen also among the executive producers.
Celeste Barber, who produced Kristen Wiig's dark satire Palm Royale is writing the series, which Variety reports will shoot on the Universal Studios backlot in Los Angeles, just like the film.
The 'Burbs is Whitehall's second regular role in a US comedy series, after he played Sebastian Drapewood, an American pretending to be British, in Apple TV+'s murder mystery comedy The After Party.
The stand-up, who recently shot an adaptation of Virginia Woolf's Night & Day for the cinema with Jennifer Saunders, Timothy Spall and Sally Phillips, is returning to host the BRIT Awards for a fifth time it was announced last month.
