Sophie Willan's relationship began with sex in the Blue Peter Garden
Sophie Willan has recalled how she and her boyfriend, fellow comic Jonny Pelham, got together after having sex in the Blue Peter Garden.
The Alma's Not Normal creator shared the story on Never Mind The Buzzcocks this week, revealing "there's a big shrub and we thought this would be a good spot."
Elaborating on the event on Elis James and John Robins' BBC Radio 5 show earlier this year, she explained: "I don't really like first dates, I think just get drunk with someone by accident, sleep with them and then see how it goes from there.
"Me and Jon have been together eight years, we were friends before ... It was a full moon, I do think that's relevant.
"Something strange happened to me. I had seven Guinness. I looked across the table and thought 'he's actually quite hot' and pounced on him.
"We had sex, in the evening, at MediaCity [in Salford], in the Blue Peter Garden. Under a shrub.
"It gets worse. Then the security came over on one of them [Segway] scooters like Gob from [US sitcom] Arrested Development.
"'Hey, just, so you know, we can see you all on the CCTV at Granada Studios.'"
Sharing the anecdote freed them from being embarrassed or blackmailed about it Willan reasoned.
"This is why we do what we do as comedians. You go on stage, you own it. You've got to make the most of it. It's out there now.
"But every time I go past that shrub now I think 'God, it's tiny' ... We've been together eight years now, by accident."
Hearing the tale on Buzzcocks, Jamali Maddix said: "They should have presented you with a Blue Peter Badge."
