Bill Bailey has revealed that the King helped him write one of his routines.

Praising the monarch for having "a good sense of humour", Bailey has recalled that Prince Charles, as he was then, was intrigued by the comic's six-necked guitar during a soundcheck for a charity gig.

Impersonating Charles' accent, Bailey told Australian television show The Cheap Seats that the prince asked: "How do you play a six-necked guitar? ... Do you have a fake arm for one of the arms?"

"And I went, 'that's actually a really good idea!'" Bailey recalled. "I had a fake arm made on Royal instruction!"

Currently touring his Thoughtifier show around Australia, his trip coinciding with the King and Queen Camilla's visit to the country, Bailey told the show's hosts, fellow comics Melanie Bracewell and Tim McDonald, that having met the King "on a couple of occasions", he "seems like a decent enough sort".

However, Bailey also remembered performing at a Christmas party for Charles' staff, which he called "a weird gig" as the Royal employees were so hesitant about being seen to laugh.

With the tour and a new book to promote, his memoir My Animals And Other Animals, Bailey is currently doing a whirlwind of press engagements.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show last week, he explained why he chose to have his famous locks shorn off:
