Trying stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith succeed in conceiving
Trying's casting director must be feeling vindicated, with the sitcom's stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith announcing that they're expecting a baby.
The pair play a married couple who decide to adopt after struggling to conceive in the Apple TV+ comedy, which is returning for a fourth series next week.
Rumours that Spall and Smith were dating emerged in 2022, after the former split from his wife, actor Elize Du Toit, with whom he shares three children.
Appearing on ITV's Lorraine this morning Smith told host Lorraine Kelly that "I've got a little bump" while caressing her stomach.
Kelly suggested that the pregnancy could be woven into future series. But the couple couldn't confirm if there would be further episodes of the sitcom, written by Andy Wolton, with Smith saying that they were "hoping".
"We'll have a baby, and then we'll carry on, perhaps, with that [Trying]," Smith said.
"We're very excited" added Spall.
