Jon Holmes

Audio editing supremo Jon Holmes is returning to Radio 2 to host a celebration of musical mash-ups.

Holmes - who produces Radio 4's award-winning comedy show The Skewer, which satirically re-edits news footage - will take to the Radio 2 airwaves on 26th December to "host the network's (unofficial) Christmas party - celebrating the greatest song mash-ups of all time, with a little help from special guests and fellow presenters."

Talking about Jon Holmes's Bangers: Mashed, the producers explain: "Jon Holmes - surely the best-connected man in radio after stints at, among others, 6 Music, Xfm, Radio 4 and, er, Power FM - throws open the studio doors and invites his radio mates round for a bit of a festive knees up. Jeremy Vine has brought a trifle, Zoe Ball is leading the Macarena on the dancefloor, and Scott Mills has the VIP area on lock. But no-one is allowed in unless they've brought a gift for the playlist: their favourite banging musical mash-up.

"For your Boxing Day delight, Jon will unpack two hours of underground pop-music mash-ups, championing the audio alchemists who've struck gold by mixing one song with another to create something jaw-droppingly different. These remixes and bootleg beats will surprise, delight and stop you in your tracks with a 'how-did-they-do-that?' in equal measure. And can we create a Christmas collaboration to rival the best on the night?

"With special guests including Ken Bruce, Romesh Ranganathan, Johnnie Walker, OJ Borg, Sara Cox, Jeremy Vine - and with the BBC's Head of Explaining Things Ros Atkins on hand to guide us through the genre's history, Jon will be bringing listeners over FIFTY songs in two hours (although, granted, most mashups contain a minimum of two tracks at once. One we'll be playing contains eight. It's an artistic epic.)

"Jon Holmes's Bangers: Mashed is your perfect Christmas playlist. So, turn it up to 11 and marvel at the magic of mash-ups like ABBA vs. Van Halen - Super Jumper, Avril Lavigne vs Taylor Swift - We Are Complicated, Nirvana vs Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give Your Teen Spirit Up and even Slipknot vs The Spice Girls - (no, really - we promise it'll be your new earworm!) Oh, and there's a particularly festive Welcome To The Christmas Parade, thanks to Mariah Carey vs My Chemical Romance!"

Jon Holmes's Bangers: Mashed will air on Radio 2 on Monday 26th December from 10pm till midnight.
