Eric Morecambe's never-before-seen "lifetime of treasures" are to be auctioned in January, as his family put all his possessions up for sale. Across the 700 lots, notable items will include star's iconic glasses, his ventriloquist dummy and the letter he wrote to Ernie Wise suggesting they break up their double act.

In a newly discovered 1973 interview with a student TV station in Norwich, Eric Morecambe said the ensemble delivered "university comedy... and I'm afraid that a lot of it is very unprofessional". Ernie Wise revealed he did "like Monty Python", but felt their shows often contained "five or six minutes of utter boredom". Monty Python member Sir Michael Palin said he was "a little hurt", but "intrigued" having seen the footage.

It was a shame the dusted off show was in black and white but, hey, you can't have everything. The format wasn't fully formed - it still followed a variety show template with guests doing turns rather than appearing in sketches.
