Steve Bennett, Chortle, 31st December 2019The top ten comedy gigs of 2019
As is tradition, here's my look back at the ten most memorable comedy gigs of the last 12 months. There are bound to be omissions - the 300 or so shows I see each year are but a scratch on the volume of work the UK's industrious comedy scene produce - and the emphasis is on the 'memorable' not necessarily the funniest or the most game-changing, even if these qualities are so often interlinked.

After an initial three-part pilot series in 2017, Dave's hit hospital comedy Porters is returning with six brand new episodes and I caught up with two of the show's leading stars to find out more.

British Comedy Guide, 26th April 2018Review: Gein's Family Giftshop, Soho Theatre
At its best this is a rollercoaster ride of a comedy show. You simply don't know what is going to happen next, which is rare in comedy and makes them really exciting. There are themes here - sex, violence, death mainly - but even when they do an obligatory airport security routine it comes from decidedly left field.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 6th February 2018Preview - Porters
This dark, hospital based sitcom from Dave has already attracted some big names too it. It's not that many brand new British sitcoms that can claim to feature Frasier's Kelsey Grammer in a cameo appearance.
Ian Wolf, On The Box, 20th September 2017This new sitcom comes from the brainpan of Dan Sefton, the medic turned writer behind BBC1's recent drama Trust Me, and features yet another character so desperate to be a doctor they will do pretty much anything. Ed Easton is the nervous new hospital porter who dreams of wielding a stethoscope, while his eccentric co-workers include Crazyhead's Susan Wokoma and former replicant Rutger Hauer. Kelsey Grammer also pops up for an irate cameo.
Graeme Virtue, The Guardian, 20th September 2017Porters: preview
Dave has only dipped its toe in the water with a commission of three episodes, but the results from this test are back - and the prognosis for Porters is definitely good.
