Jordan Brookes review

A comedian comfortable with discomfort needs to shape up this act.

A skilled comedian who needs better material.

Dylan Moran review

On a good night Dylan Moran will light up any room with a precision-crafted observational absurdism that is hard to distinguish from his moments of off-the-cuff inspiration. This scrappy collection of half-formed thoughts and barely there routines is not a good night, though. Nor does it look likely to offer good nights in the near future.

Joe Lycett review

Wildly inventive but bordering on self-congratulation.

Katherine Ryan review

Acidic and affectionate, a comedian in glorious full song.

Al Murray, the Pub Landlord: the pint-swilling philosopher for our times

"This was our Blitz!" announces Al Murray's beer-sloshing alter ego the Pub Landord as he takes to the stage full of characteristically overstated certainties. It's a crowded market if you joke about covid and lockdown, and the Landlord's ideas aren't quite sharp enough to puncture any thoughts of "oh no, not this again". Still, no other act is as well placed to put today's miseries in context. The Landlord is a bar-room philosopher whose arguments slalom between no-nonsense and all-nonsense. He may not have his creator's Oxford degree in modern history, but he has the same broad-canvas view of humanity.

Catherine Bohart review

A real feeling of her recalibrating her sense of self underlies Bohart's often upbeat, borderline breezy talk of getting out of wi-fi contracts, of bottling her emotions, of going home to Ireland to find her disconsolate mother.
