Edinburgh Fringe preview: Robin Ince
This could be an interesting show. Dammit, it will be an interesting show. The first time I saw Robin Ince he wasn't onstage, he was voting at the same polling station as me in the 1997 General Election. The next time I saw him he was supporting a relatively youthful Ricky Gervais and being slightly smutty in a schoolboyish way.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 4th July 2014Interview: Sara Pascoe
Sara Pascoe on female instincts, healthy sperm and her latest show.
Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard, 4th July 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Dave Griffiths
When Griffiths wore a T-shirt that said "CNUT" alongside the words 'French Correction' he came into conflict with a clothing brand that also happened to have a slogan that jumbles up the letters of a rude word. A comedian could not possibly let this one go, so Griffiths took them on and, of course, got a show out of it, which premiered in Edinburgh last year.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 3rd July 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Nick Revell
Well, if Monty Python can make a comeback why can't Nick Revell? The satirical stand-up was one of the leading lights of the alternative comedy circuit in the 1980s.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 2nd July 2014Monty Python, O2 Arena - comedy review
'John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam delivered material written nearly half a century ago - and it still works'
Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard, 2nd July 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Simon Munnery
Simon Munnery has come up with more original comedy ideas than most comedians have had punchlines.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 30th June 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Eric Lampaert
A little bit Paul Foot, a tiny bit Noel Fielding. He looks like a wasted Russell Brand and delivers an amiably quirky view of life.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 29th June 2014Review: Imagine...Monty Python
The best moment was probably seeing pictures of the elaborate sets which looked tantalising. For the first time, I felt excited about seeing the show.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 29th June 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Russell Kane
"The stupid face, the silly hair, the bracelets, what a repulsive man, take him away and smother him". Well that's what someone commented in the Evening Standard when I reviewed Russell Kane's show Smallness at the Queen Elizabeth Hall earlier this year. I, on the other hand, rather like Kane.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 29th June 2014Edinburgh Fringe preview: Imran Yusuf
Imran Yusuf already has a place in history for Edinburgh Comedy Awards nerds like myself. In 2010 he was the first comedian performing his show for free to pick up a nomination when he was shortlisted for Best Newcomer.
