Edinburgh preview: Steve Bugeja
Winners of awards always have a little more more pressure on them when they do their first full shows, but I don't think pressure will be a problem for Steve Bugeja, who won the 2013 BBC New Comedy Award.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 23rd July 2015Edinburgh preview: Lee Nelson
Balls of steel. Testicles of Titanium. Nutsacks of pure granite. I can't really come up with a better explanation of how Simon Brodkin has managed to pull off his recent stunts, joining Kanye West onstage at Glastonbury and showering Sepp Blatter with fake bank notes.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 22nd July 2015Film review: The Last Sparks of Sundown
Physical comedy duo Shenoah Allen and Mark Chavez, best known as Pajama Men, have been such a brilliantly talented, thrilling, inventive live act I've always wondered how they would translate to the screen. Or to put it another way, could they translate to the screen? It's pretty impressive that they have landed the lead roles in this indie movie, but I'm not sure if it quite plays to their strengths.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 22nd July 2015Edinburgh preview: Matt Forde
Satirist Matt Forde has a problem. Just as he mastered his Ed Miliband impression Ed went and got wiped out at the election. Forde now has to master either Andy Burnham, Jeremy Corbyn or put on a skirt.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 21st July 2015Katherine Ryan adds extra Edinburgh date
Ryan is at The Stand from August 6 - 22 and has now added a show at the Pleasance Beyond on Wednesday August 12 at 9.30pm.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 21st July 2015Latitude review: Jason Manford
This was classic observational stand-up with knobs on.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 20th July 2015Latitude review: Jason Byrne
Once more Byrne went where few comedians dare to go.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 20th July 2015Latitude review: James Acaster
I won't go into too much detail about James Acaster's Latitude set because it was clearly an excerpt from his forthcoming Edinburgh show, Represent. I will say for starters though that if you are going to Edinburgh and don't have a ticket yet get one quickly.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 20th July 2015Latitude review: Sara Pascoe
She might have been on in the middle of the afternoon rather than headlining, but a roar went up when Sara Pascoe was introduced.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 19th July 2015Edinburgh preview: Mike Wozniak
In my head Mike Wozniak has a little place in Edinburgh Fringe history. Long before free shows were sweeping the awards board his gratis gig in the basement of a restaurant near the Pleasance was the first free show that the Edinburgh Comedy Award panel advised me to check out back in 2008.
