Why do some comics make it big and not others?

There are all sorts of comedians I thought would make it but for some reason or other didn't. I tipped Marc Wootton for stardom in the Evening Standard so often it started to become embarrassing. People probably thought we must be related. I also think Boothby Graffoe could have been a mainstream star. Even Addy Van Der Borgh could have been a Saturday night shiny-floored clown. But for some reason none of these people made it as big as I expected. There is still time I guess. Maybe not enough time to get to the O2 this Friday, but there is always next year.

Preview: Camping, Sky Atlantic, episodes 5 & 6

Don't be fooled by the jaunty sub-Mumfords music at the start of episode 5. Julia Davis' comedy-drama comes to a head in all sorts of horrendous ways in these last two instalments.

TV preview: Flowers, C4

This is not your conventional sitcom then, but nor is it anything like Camping or The Mighty Boosh. It's sitcomland but tipped off its axis in a different direction. There are moments which will make you laugh - particularly the house party from hell in the first episode - but this is a series that stretches the genre to snapping point.

Review: Michael McIntyre's Big Show, BBC1, episode 2

I think I preferred him as a chat show host where there was more scope to be a comedian, less scope to be an all-round family entertainer.

Jay Islaam on online marketing for comedians

Here's a slightly amended version of an article by Jay Islaam which he posted last weekend. There are some very interesting pointers here for anyone dipping their toes in online marketing - and if you are reading this website that probably means you.

Review: Camping, Sky Atlantic, eps 3 & 4

I was probably a bit unfair to dub this series Nighty Night On Holiday when I first heard about Camping].
