TV review: Hospital People, Episode Two, BBC1
If you want simple sitcom laughs you can't go far wrong with Hospital People.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 27th April 2017TV review: Taskmaster
I particularly liked the way Alex Horne glared at them while they worked things out, a little like Karen Brady does in The Apprentice.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 25th April 2017New show for Daniel Kitson announced
Daniel Kitson is to debut a new stand up show at the Roundhouse in London this summer. It is called Something Other Than Everything.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 25th April 2017Peter Kay's Car Share, Episode Four, review
I'm afraid I cracked. I'd seen so many references on social media to the final episode of Car Share from people who had watched it on iPlayer I couldn't handle the tension any longer. I had to watch it. And it doesn't disappoint.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 24th April 2017Review: The Philanthropist
You'd have to be a very generous philanthropist to recommend it as a night out.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 22nd April 2017Symfunny, comedy review
Jason Manford compered a strong line-up of comedy and music at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of Parkinson's.
Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard, 20th April 2017TV: Bucket, Episode Two, BBC4 review
The story ebbs and flows but with Mim suffering from a terminal illness - hence the Aldi budget bucket list journey, no swimming with dolphins off the Great Barrier Reef just yet - one can assume that this is building to a climax in the fourth and final episode. Presumably Mim will die a moving death in her daughter's arms or something and we will all sob a bit - unless there are plans for a second series.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 20th April 2017TV review: Hospital People
Somehow Binns manages to have his cheese cake and eat it. The tidal wave of gags both good and eggy means that there is never a dull moment when one might sit back and realise how corny this is.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 19th April 2017Peter Kay's Car Share, Episode Two, BBC1/iPlayer review
There's an obvious undertow of potential romance in this second series, with the pop songs from Forever FM commentating on the unspoken feelings between John and Kayleigh. But towards the end of the episode it looks like the unspoken is about to be spoken.
Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 16th April 2017Interview: rarely asked questions - Greg Proops
Greg Proops is a bit of a legend. The smart-suited American is a terrific stand-up comedian but may be better known as a master of improvisation. He first made his name in the UK as a regular performer on C4's Whose Line Is It Anyway? You name it, he can make it funny.
