Shooting Stars may have been cancelled, but Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer are convinced there's still humour to be wrung from the surreal panel show format. Their contribution to Channel 4's Funny Fortnight is this characteristically fantastical quiz show in which Eddie Izzard and other star guests face unexpected questions as they compete for prizes. Impersonations and new sketches are part of the mix in a comedy half hour highly likely to garner a new fan base for these veteran kings of comedy.

Out of Channel 4's Funny Fortnight we're most excited to see Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer ripping up the panel show rulebook once again for Lucky Sexy Winners, which hopefully will be a cool and capable successor to their much-missed BBC programme Shooting Stars. With original sketches, new characters and a dash of sheer insanity, their clowning around is not to be missed.

David Mitchell is sandwiched between two TV giants this week. Literally. Pointless's Richard Osman and The Inbetweeners' Greg Davies are both about 6ft 8 in tall where Mitchell is a good ten inches shorter.

Osman's dry wit has won him a cult following among daytime viewers but given the wider platform of primetime TV, it turns out he's genuine comedy gold. His first attempt to bamboozle his opponents involves a Cluedo-esque story about burying a badger with the Banker from Deal or No Deal. It leaves his fellow panellists crying with laughter. Patsy Kensit has her comedy moments too, though. When asked rhetorically by a straightfaced Osman, "You're not an actress, are you, Patsy?" she swiftly replies: "A lot of people would say no."

In the remainder of the show Bob Mortimer insists he can split an apple with his bare hands, while Davies reveals he is the schoolboy creator of the "Snorkel Parka Music Practice Room" game.

What went wrong with Shooting Stars?

As the show limped into its eighth series last August, Bob Mortimer believed that the show was relevant once again. So far, the key broadcasters have countered with a resounding 'Uvavu!'

Created by Dan Skinner, comic character Angelos Epithemiou is an anorak-clad, bespectacled, burger van-owning misfit who permanently lugs round a Sainsbury's carrier bag. He found cult fame as a panellist on recently axed BBC gameshow Shooting Stars and now moves to Channel 4 for this solo vehicle, executively produced by Bob Mortimer. Rather reminiscent of Vic Reeves or Harry Hill's early offerings, it's a surreal, cartoonish show packed with slapstick, music, magic and celebrity send-ups.
