Rhianna Evans, Super Ink, 7th January 2019With no series of The Trip this year, a new pair of self-ironising, physically fading comics arrived to provide a sunnier take on kinship between two very funny middle-aged men. Those of us who didn't even know Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse were mates soon delighted in the closeness of their evidently long-held friendship, as they simply went fishing together and chatted as they sat waiting on the riverbank. Notes of wistful, mortal vulnerability, along with the slight competitiveness that's always there when two comedians meet, gave their conversations depth to go with the endless silly laughs.
Jack Seale, Radio Times, 28th December 2018Given that the first two series of their comedy extravaganza ran to seven episodes apiece, is it wrong to feel shortchanged as Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's four-show run reaches its conclusion? Really, we should be grateful for every surreal minute we get to spend in their company. Here, they open with a skit on vehicle maintenance among the celebrity community, surprise us with an "up-to-date dance project" and save the best for last when the Man with the Stick returns from the future in all his silvery splendour.
