Hey, Shepperton, Red Dwarf X is in the building!
Shepperton Studios is the place to be tonight as it's zero hour for the lucky few that scored tickets to the first taping date for Red Dwarf X.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 16th December 2011Something funny is going on 16 Dec
I really feel for the judges in this years British Comedy Awards, which take place Friday, 16 December, at Wembley's Fountain Studios.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 14th December 20112012 shaping up to be a great year for comedy output
Forget the annual Christmas Day BBC 1 vs. ITV 1 battle royal. 2012 brings an even bigger main event to the forefront with challenger, Sky 1 declaring they are poised to be the 'home of original British comedy' and taking on the perennial powerhouse, the BBC, on their home turf - comedy and light entertainment.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 10th December 2011Happy 50th, Martin Clunes
The man known, in recent years, for his portrayal of the ornery, cantankerous, cranky (pick one) Doctor Martin Ellingham in the hit British comedy/drama, Doc Martin, turns the big 5-0 today.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 28th November 2011Take a trip down Hooky Street - in print!
If you're a British comedy fan, the recently released Only Fools and Horses: The Story of Britain's Favourite Comedy book needs to be at the top of your Christmas list.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 16th November 2011Mongrels - Definitely not the Muppets
Reminiscent of one of the all-time great movies, The Player, there are times that you'd like to be a fly on the wall in a pitch meeting trying to convince studio heads that your idea is the next Seinfeld, ER or Desperate Housewives. Imagine your pitch to the BBC commissioners for a series called Mongrels.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 14th November 2011Rev returns tonight on BBC 2
At long last, it's time for everyone in the UK to return to the inner-city world of St Saviour's in East London beginning tonight, Thursday, 10 November at 2100 on BBC2. Reverend Adam Smallbone (Tom Hollander) is back in Rev, along with Alex, his long-suffering solicitor wife, Colin, Mick and the entire motley congregation en tow for a sophomore season of the hit comedy.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 10th November 2011Psychoville Halloween special - one and done :(
Two bits of greatness that you could always count on to grace the small screen during Halloween have been The Simpsons Halloween Special and, last year's classic newcomer, the brilliance of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton's Psychoville Halloween Special. While The Simpsons has remained a staple of Halloween viewing for the past 20+ years, there is no joy in Psychoville any longer as after only two short seasons, the series was cut down in its prime by the BBC and there will be no Halloween special this year.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 31st October 2011How Fawlty Towers almost never opened its' doors
As the story goes, in May of 1974, following a now legendary 1972 stay at the Gleneagles Hotel by members of the Monty Python troupe, a pilot script written by John Cleese and his then-wife, Connie Booth, was submitted to the BBC. A clearly unimpressed 'comedy script editor' by the name of Ian Main sent the following memo to BBC Television's Head of Comedy and Light Entertainment.
Bill Young, Tellyspotting, 29th October 2011Rowan Atkinson - America is a 'tough bean' to crack
Credit where credit is due here. That brilliant headline comes from Susan King at the Los Angeles Times. With Rowan Atkinson's new film, Johnny English Reborn set to open in U.S. theaters nationwide today, the British comedian has found, historically, that the American market is, indeed, a tough 'bean' to crack when it comes to big screen popularity.
