Barbara Fernandez is a bubbly French American rocker who bounces between personalities using powerful vocals and, unfortunately for her bank account, bra-busting style. Always popular at school for causing laughter with her mouth brace, shyness and fellow misfit friends, Barbara figured mocking herself could be more fun from a stage: she takes pride in knowing one of her tormentors is now in prison for attempted murder, as unlike her, he never gets to choose what film to watch.
To prepare for her career in comedy, Barbara moved to Paris so that she could live life to the fullest - she helped her French husband lay a level cement floor (which was harder than it looked, unlike said husband), she licked stamps in exchange for food for the Scientologists (before they then stole the ditch-digging husband), and taught English to the French using hypnosis (they didn't learn English, but they did do her bidding).
Barbara has been performing in various parts of the UK and, to the surprises of audiences everywhere, has still managed to keep her accent (securely under her belt). Barbara is fluent in French and Spanish (thanks to previous husbands), which is oh-so-useful when gigging in cosmopolitan Luton. Her performances have been described as 'uplifting female power in the midst of chaos' - if chaos wore 6-inch stilettos.
In her spare time, Barbara is a highly experienced wild animal rehabber - though the baby raccoons gave her hickies, Barbara says raising wild things was excellent practice for dealing with hecklers.
Barbara is freshly back from Edinburgh Fringe with 'soaring vocals, belly laughs and touching tales' for audiences who were moved to tears but thankfully stayed seated. She is continuing to offer her successful show Singing, Sagging and Psychotherapy (previously Singing, Sagging and Shagging - while the first 2 were guaranteed at each performance, the 3rd was not 😊 )
"Outrageously funny musical comedy show. What an excellent comedian"
Theatre and Arts Review (Elaine Chapman), Monday 19th August 2024
"She's fearless, endearing, and utterly unflinching, a force of nature who leaves us laughing and reflecting. She's vulnerable yet confident, raunchy yet touching. An hour in Barbara Fernandez's company is an absolute joy" *Highly Recommended Show*
