Alex Edelman is an American stand-up comedian living in London, England. Born in Boston to an Orthodox Jewish family, Edelman spent a year in a Yeshiva in Jerusalem before returning to the US to study English at New York University. His brother is Israeli Olympian Adam Edelman.
Having first performed stand-up comedy at the tender age of just 15, his first show, Millennial, tackled stock photos and perceptions of the youth in today's society. It took home the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer, the first show by an American to do so since Arj Barker in 1997. His next show, Everything Handed To You, took on identity and airports, and sold out its entire Edinburgh run.
After spending some time as a staff-writer on US television's The Great Indoors, made by CBS, he returned with another show, Just For Us, which was nominated for a Barry Award for Best Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. When he took it to Edinburgh, it earned a Herald Angel Award, and cemented Edelman's place on the British comedy circuit.
Since then, he has appeared on British comedy shows such as The John Bishop Show, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, and Roast Battle, and his comments and anecdotes about live comedy form an important part of the book Off The Mic, written by Deborah Frances-White and Marsha Shandur.
In 2017 he created his own BBC Radio 4 show, Alex Edelman's Peer Group, a show in which he discusses millennial culture. One of the founders of Jerusalem's Off the Wall Comedy Club, he has also appeared on an hour-long special of Live At The BBC and on Live At The Apollo, in an episode hosted by Sindhu Vee.
An accomplished writer and journalist, Edelman has also penned pieces for outlets like The Atlantic and The Believer, and has also written and produced his own documentaries for the US State Department and ESPN.
