From East Sheen in southwest London, Abigail Cruttenden acted with her then-husband (divorced in 2000) Sean Bean, playing his character Richard Sharpe's onscreen wife Jane in the ITV TV series Sharpe, about a fictional British soldier in the Napoleonic Wars.

She has played the character the character of Miranda in the ITV sitcom Mog, released in the mid-80s. Since then, she has acted as Kate Weedon in the first three series of ITV sitcom, Benidorm, set in a Spanish holiday resort, as well as taking on minor roles in Channel 4's Fresh Meat, BBC One's Citizen Khan, and ITV's Teenage Kicks.

Since 2017 she has played the role of Ellie in the BBC Radio 4 sitcom Alone, based on a group of single, middle-aged people living in a converted Victorian house in North London.

The older sister of comedian Hal Cruttenden, she is perhaps best known on British television for the character of Anna on Lee Mack's long-running BBC One sitcom Not Going Out, which she joined in series 7.
