Nigel Ng has landed his own sketch show on Comedy Central, co-starring Evelyn Mok.

The pair, who until last year presented the Rice To Meet You podcast together, co-wrote and star in the eight-part comedy East Mode With Nigel Ng, which launches on Comedy Central UK's YouTube channel and Facebook Watch page on Friday, before a television broadcast later this year.

"This is all very exciting" said Ng. "I couldn't see my family over Lunar New Year but this is so good it almost makes up for it."

Ahead of Chinese New Year yesterday, the channel released a trailer for the show, which celebrates East Asian and South East Asian talent, and was co-written with fellow comic Morgan Rees:

Sketches include a mismatched heist crew stealing free hotel toiletries and an intrusive A.I. device channelling the attitude of Asian parents, played by Ng.

Viewers will also meet obsessive parents and other characters "with a relatable dash of diaspora" across the series.

East Mode is directed by Jack Howard (Jack And Dean Of All Trades), produced by Mary Rose for Viacom International Studios and executive produced by Rebecca Hewett (Drunk History Black Stories).

Malaysian-Chinese comic Ng, who is best known for his Uncle Roger alter-ego, and Swedish-Chinese comic Mok, previously wrote for the 2020 Radio 4 pilot Drop The Dead Panda, which Mok starred in with fellow comic Ken Cheng and which was nominated for a BBC Audio Drama award for best scripted sketch comedy show last month.

Ng, who is about to embark on the UK dates of his international The HAIYAA Tour, beginning at the Glee Club in Cardiff on 16th February, has started animating his Uncle Roger sketches and is currently in Los Angeles developing a scripted sitcom with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's production company, Studio Ramsay.

Meanwhile, Mok will appear in the forthcoming comedy film, My Happy Ending, with Andie MacDowell, Sally Phillips, Tamsin Greig, David Walliams and Miriam Margolyes.
