BBC Three has confirmed the commissioning of a second series of This Country.

The mockumentary, set in a Cotswold village and following the adventures of cousins Kerry and Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe, has been a critical hit for the BBC. When the show launched in February 2017 it picked up almost universally positive press reviews, and was soon scheduled in a slot on BBC One. The comedy has also performed very well online, with over 4 million iPlayer requests to date.

The BBC confirmed today: "Later this year cameras will return to the Cotswold village of Northleach to further explore the lives of cousins Kerry and Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe."

The show is created by and stars Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper. Speaking about today's news, the siblings say: "We are beyond thrilled to have a second series. We wrote something else in case this wasn't recommissioned which ended up being exactly the same plot as the BBC drama Life On Mars. So this second series is a godsend really as we can't do anything else."

Shane Allen, Controller of Comedy Commissioning, comments: "It's been a pure joy to see Daisy and Charlie get the recognition their talents deserve with this show. It has been an instant hit with the audience and they've got cracking ideas for the series ahead."

Chris Sussman, Head of Comedy at BBC Studios, says: "'We're thrilled to get the chance to make more episodes of This Country, and see what Kerry and Kurtan have been up to since we last left them. It's one of my favourite new comedies of recent years."

Damian Kavanagh, Controller BBC Three, adds: "I'm delighted we're going back to the Cotswolds to catch up with the latest antics from Kerry and Kurtan. Series 1 was a huge hit with the BBC Three audience and we are excited to bring them back for more."

The six new episodes will begin filming in the Cotswolds this autumn, and are set to return to BBC Three in 2018.

The whole first series is still available to view on BBC iPlayer
