Introducing Decasp

Decasp

We asked the proprietor of a new US comedy site, Decasp, which is aiming to bring the British style of humour to America and beyond, to introduce his site. This is what we got back from him:

Frankencomedy: Decasp.com's body may be American, but its comedy heart thumps Brit Brit Brit

Decasp.com, a new comedy site based in America, is the brainchild of editor Kenny B. That's me. I sat down with myself to discuss my motivations for starting a comedy website.

Kenny B: Thanks for taking time to talk with me Kenny.

Kenny B: My pleasure.

Kenny B: Right before this interview I heard you thinking that Decasp has its origins in Great Britain. What did you mean by that?

Kenny B: I love W.C. Fields, Rodney, Jonathan Winters, and those guys, but when I think about what the ideal comedy smoothie would be, it's five parts Monty Python, one part Benny Hill, and a scoop or two of the old American show Beverly Hillbillies. The common theme is smart absurdity, or intelligence buried in moronity. I mean how brilliant was the Penguin on the Tele bit? Totally ridiculous.

Kenny B: So Decasp.com is just a cheap Monty Python knock-off?

Kenny B: [Slaps self in face] Don't be ridiculous. That'd be like trying to update the Spam song to work as elevator music. Can't be done. No, I'm just trying to capture its spirit of absurdity, or I should say, a sliver of it. A smidge. The tiniest hint of it. The Lark.

Kenny B: Gesundheit.

Kenny B: Decasp. I will say that, unlike Python, Decasp will stay clear of politics and controversy. Honestly, there are plenty of comedy venues for that, including the nightly news. I just need a good laugh, know what I mean? OK KB, last question...

Kenny B: [Puzzled] We seem to have switched roles. No matter. Ask away...

Kenny B: Where did the name Decasp come from?

Kenny B: It came from me, which is to say, it is mine, I thought of it. And I will describe it thusly: It begins with the letter 'D', does not contain the letter 'L', and ends with a 'sp'. Thank you very much.

Kenny B: And thank you. I'll think I am in a couple seconds. Make it twenty. Will do.

There you have it. Decasp.com, comedy smoothie, sure to tickle your hint hint, nudge nudge, know what I mean.
