Pete Versus Life, the sitcom starring Rafe Spall as a loser whose life is analysed by a pair of sports commentators, has been given a second series by Channel 4.

Rafe Spall stars in the show as a twenty-something struggling sports writer who lacks the emotional maturity required to deal with life's more intricate problems. The unique twist in the sitcom, which has been created by the production company behind Peep Show, is that the central character's life is commented on as if it was an exciting sporting event. Two professional sport commentators discuss and analyse Pete's actions with accompanying statistics, on screen graphics and slow motion replays.

Pete Versus Life averaged 1.6 million viewers in its 10pm Friday slot when it was broadcast in August, which is good figures for Channel 4. The sitcom has also received praise from the press, with The Mirror saying "the interjections of sports commentators have provided a fresh twist on the sitcom format and we would welcome a rematch any time."

Series two of the sitcom will be broadcast later in 2011.
