Impressive sales for Green Wing and Darkplace DVDs
4DVD have announced that the Series 2 Green Wing DVD and the long-overdue release of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace have both sold far more copies than the company were expecting.
More than 83,000 Green Wing boxsets have been sold in the last three weeks whilst Darkplace, the cult sitcom which spoofs 80s TV, has shifted over 32,000 copies. 4DVD are obviously delighted and these figures suggest that Channel 4 should re-think their decision to axe Darkplace after just the one season. Perhaps these sales could also prompt the budget to be found for a third series of Green Wing? (Although, as we've said before, it's unlikely it will return due to the writers and stars having other commitments).
It's likely the DVD signing sessions for both the boxsets certainly helped the sales. Virgin Megastores have told us that their Garth Marenghi signing was un-expectedly one of their busiest events. The GW signing session was obviously very popular too with queues streaming right though the Oxford Street store.
