'Allo 'Allo! returns to the stage
Wartime sitcom 'Allo 'Allo! is to return as a stage adaptation.
The comedy has previously been performed as a stage show in 1992, with a script written by the show's original writers David Croft and Jeremy Lloyd. However, this time it is to be revived by Ed O'Driscoll, who recently produced the stage tour of four episodes of Dad's Army.
O' Driscoll said: "'Allo 'Allo! has proved to be a natural progression and it's proving to be a lot of fun. It's seafront humour, very funny, and it takes the mickey out of everybody - the French, the Germans, the British, there's no favouritism."
The production, which opens in Stevenage on 29th August, will star Jeffrey Holland (Hi-de-Hi!) in the role of café owner René Artois. Original cast member Vicki Michelle will be reprising her role as René’s love interest Yvette Carte-Blanche.
It is believed that it will not be the last sitcom that O'Driscoll will be adapting for the stage, reports say he is working with Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais on a stage version of Porridge.
A tribute to 'Allo 'Allo, which featured many of the cast, was broadcast last year. Later this year the BBC is to broadcast a tribute to Dad's Army.
