Jessica Hynes wants to make Spaced movie

Wednesday 11th June 2008, 5:06am

Jessica Hynes, the co-creator of the hit cult sitcom Spaced has said she would be 'very up for' creating a spin-off film.

She added that she was talking to co-writer Simon Pegg, and told Time Out magazine that "nothing is out of the question", even more TV episodes could be a possibility.

Spaced ran for two series in 1999 and 2001. It was a Channel 4 sitcom about a comic book artist who meets up with an aspiring writer-journalist to pose as a professional couple in order to find a decent flat to rent. They soon become best of friends. It became known for its ground-breaking filming style and affectionate parodies.

When Time Out – who were interviewing Hynes about her first ever stand-up show, which takes place next Wednesday - asked the actress and writer if there was any chance of any more episodes, she said: "Strangely, I’ve just been emailing Simon and, you never know, nothing's out of the question. I loved playing Daisy, so who knows?"

She went on to say that if Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright were interested, she would like to produce a film. "I'm putting that out there. I would be very up for doing a Spaced movie. How great would that be! Why not? Let's do it!", she said.

Hynes' interest in bringing back the sitcom may in part have something to do with the fact that recently American TV company Fox attempted to re-make the comedy without their backing. The pilot has since been scrapped (story).

Jessica Hynes is performing next Wednesday at the NCH Stand Up Get Down charity gig.
