E4's Inbetweeners get second series
The British Sitcom Guide has learnt that E4's first home-grown sitcom, The Inbetweeners, has just been re-commissioned by Channel 4 for a second series.
The comedy, which finished on Thursday, is about four teenagers growing up in suburbia. Written by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, the six-part first series became an instant hit when it made its debut on E4 last month. Having picked up near universal positive reviews from both critics and viewers, it is perhaps unsurprising to hear that Channel 4 are very eager for more episodes.
The second series is now being written, with a transmission date planned for 2009. The new episodes will continue to feature stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison. Like last time they will be produced and filmed by Morris and Beesley's Bwark Productions.
Meanwhile it is believed that the schedulers are currently arranging a terrestrial repeat slot for the first series so those that missed it on E4 get a chance to see the comedy.

At the time of writing, the entire first series can be watched for free on 4oD. The Inbetweeners has also just been released on DVD (details); extras include audio commentaries, video diaries and a making of documentary.
