Charlie Brooker moves into horror
Charlie Brooker, creator of Nathan Barley and host of Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe is now also working in a different genre – horror.
His new series, Dead Set, will be the first scripted horror for E4. Brooker, a long-time fan of horror films, has said that the series "could not be described as a comedy".
Brooker also said: "Dead Set is very different to anything I've done before, and I hope the end result will surprise, entertain and appall people in equal measure." He also added that the series will star "a mixture of known and less well known faces."
Brooker co-wrote Channel 4 sitcom Nathan Barley and has said that neither he nor co-writer Chris Morris have given up on the idea of returning to the sitcom. However, any return is currently on hold due to other commitments. Apart from his TV work, every Monday Brooker writes a very popular and humorous column in The Guardian (today he writes about the London mayoral elections) and a 'Screen Burn' column every Saturday for the same paper. Chris Morris meanwhile is currently working on a film about terrorism.
