Croft and Perry to claim special BAFTA Craft award
Jimmy Perry and David Croft, who have written a number of hit sitcoms, will receive a special award for their work at the 2008 BAFTA Television Craft Awards. The BAFTA TV Craft awards celebrate the work of those who are behind the camera.
The writing duo, whose credits include Dad's Army, Hi-De-Hi! and It Ain't Half Hot Mum are set to receive this year's 'Special Award' at the ceremony on the 11th May.
A Bafta spokesman said: "This year's Special Award honours the dynamic writing duo David Croft and Jimmy Perry, whose slate of work is testament to their extraordinary creative contribution to television. They are one of the most successful comedy sitcom-writing partnerships."
Meanwhile The Mighty Boosh is in contention for one of the other craft awards. Editor Mark Everson has been nominated in the "Editing Fiction/Entertainment" category.
Other programmes nominated which involve comedians include Michael Palin's New Europe, Seven Ages of Rock (narrated by Green Wing's Julian Rhind-Tutt) and Oliver Twist (also starring Rhind-Tutt, alongside Rob Brydon and Michelle Gomez).
The show with the most nominations is period drama Cranford, starring Judy Dench (As Time Goes By), which has been nominated for seven awards.
