Outnumbered to be remade in USA
Outnumbered, the semi-improvised sitcom created by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, is to be re-made for the Fox network in America.
According to trade magazine Variety, the comedy, which focus on the lives of two parents who are outnumbered by their three menacing children, is being re-written by Larry Levin, who also wrote the Eddie Murphy version of Dr. Dolittle. It will be directed by Bryan Gordon.
The first series of Outnumbered was broadcast in August on BBC1 to great ratings and critical acclaim. A second series has been commissioned by the BBC and will be shown later in the year.
Outnumbered is in the latest in a string of British imports to be piloted by Fox. The network is also currently making a version of Spaced. Work on the pilot was halted due to the writers strike, but production has now resumed. The adaptation has been considered controversial, as the original director Edgar Wright claimed he had not been informed that the show was being made until he read it in the press (full story).
