Collins and Herring launch new podcast series
Andrew Collins and Richard Herring have launched a new comedy audio podcast series in which they talk about the topical news stories which amuse them.
Their new audio adventure, which is titled The Collings and Herrin Podcasts, was inspired by the success of their popular news reviews on BBC 6 Music. Since Collins' radio show ended the pair have been looking continue this feature – and have decided podcasting is the best way of bringing it back.
They say the added advantage of podcasting over the radio is that there is no music to interrupt the flow of dialogue and "no need to temper the content for fear of offending a Sunday afternoon radio audience." As a result, listeners can expect some controversial jokes, for example in the first podcast one of the topics of discussion is based around Chris Langham.
The duo both have a strong background in comedy. Richard Herring is a busy stand-up comedian, probably best known as being part of double-act Lee and Herring. He also writes Warming Up, a popular online diary. Andrew Collins meanwhile has, amongst other things, written BBC3 sitcom Grass and so far co-written two series of the hit BBC1 comedy Not Going Out (a third series is being written this year).
The first Collings and Herrin podcast, which is 43 minutes long, can be downloaded for free. It is being hosted on the new British Comedy Guide server, this is where The British Sitcom Guide will be re-launching in a couple of month's time. The topics discussed in the first podcast are wide and varied – they include Woolworth's ill advised name for their new range of children's furniture, Britney Spears' breakdown and the decision to drop David Beckham from the national squad.
