Radio sitcom Hut 33 gets a second series
The BBC have announced that Radio 4 sitcom Hut 33, which was first broadcast in July 2007, will be returning for a second series.
Set in Bletchley Park, in 1941, the radio comedy focuses on three code-breakers forced to share a draughty wooden hut as they try to break German ciphers. Unfortunately they hate one another.
Much of the tension is down to the fact that Archie, a stroppy Geordie who wants a socialist revolution must work with Charles, an ultra-conservative snob. Meanwhile Gordon, a child prodigy code-breaker, wants to be taken seriously, which is difficult in short trousers. In theory, 3rd Lieut Joshua Fanshawe-Marshall is in charge of the hut, but he struggles to even find his way there, let alone exercise authority. Other characters include Minka, their Polish secretary who is worryingly keen on extreme violence and Mrs Best, their sex-obsessed landlady.
The comedy features an impressive cast list. The main characters are played by Robert Bathurst, Tom Goodman-Hill, Olivia Colman, Alex MacQueen, Lill Roughley and Fergus Craig.
Series two will be recorded at the BBC Radio Theatre in March. Free tickets are now available from BBC Tickets.
