UK shows win International Emmys
UK shows managed to dominate the International Emmys, winning seven out of eight awards they were nominated for including "Best Comedy" which went to Little Britain Abroad. The sketch show was up against Germany's Alle lieben Jimmy (Everybody Loves Jimmy), Brazil's The Amateurs, Japan's NEO: Office Chuckles and South Africa's Sorted.
Other British shows which won an award at the New York ceremony last night included Stephen Fry's documentary The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive. The presenter said: "It's a lucky evening for us. We're lucky to have this institution, the BBC, and that's helped generations of people."
Britain also picked up awards via Simon Schama's Power of Art, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Death of a President (the only non-BBC winner), and two awards from drama series The Street, including "Best Actor" for Jim Broadbent, who shared his award with a Dutch actor, Pierre Bokma.
The only British person to lose out was another comedian - Victoria Wood, who was nominated for "Best Actress" for her role in Housewife 49; French actress Muriel Robin picked up the award.
