Spaced goes to America

Tuesday 30th October 2007, 9:10am

The Channel 4 sitcom Spaced is to be remade for the U.S. by the Fox Network.

A pilot of the show is now in production. Spaced, which originally starred and was written by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson (now Jessica Haynes), is to be adapted for American audiences by Adam Barr, who has also worked on the American sitcom Will and Grace and on Desperate Housewives.

The project is being worked on by Granada and Wonerland Sound and Vision, in particular by Peter Johnson, who discovered Spaced due to his fondness of Pegg's film Shaun of the Dead. The adaptation has been likened to that of the American version of The Office, with its creator and producer Greg Daniels running the project.

This is the second British sitcom to be adapted by Fox in recent weeks. A few weeks ago, they commissioned a pilot re-make of the BBC sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em.
