Merton to present more travel shows for Five TV
Paul Merton is to present two new travel programmes for Channel Five, following on from the success of his previous travel show for the channel, Paul Merton in China.
Like the series set in China, Merton will travel around two different countries, India and Germany. Each series will consist of four hour-long episodes. The last series attracted 1.8 million viewers, 400,000 more than the average Five viewing figures for the time slot in which it was broadcast. Chris Shaw, Five's senior programme controller said "Paul's brilliant improvised humour and natural curiosity combine to offer a totally new style of topical adventure show."
Merton told Broadcast Magazine "As with China, we've got a number of interesting places on the itinerary in India and Germany, but, once I get there, I hope to throw in a few surprises." On his journeys, Merton plans to test the British stereotypical view of the Germans, and plans to meet Karmapa Dorje, who claims to be, "the coolest monk in India."
