Del Boy's Reliant sells for £44,000

If only Del Boy had known how much the battered Trotters Independent Trading Co's Reliant Regal he was driving around was worth he'd have made his million a lot quicker...

One of the three Reliant Regal's used in Only Fools and Horses sold at auction yesterday for a cool £44,227 - more than double its original estimate.

The 1972 model, the second of the three made for the show, was bought at the Coys of Kensington specialist car auction at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London last night by Millionaire Philip Walker who will add the Reliant Regal to his fleet of 25 cars. He said: "I'm going to embarrass the kids by picking them up from school in it."

The three-wheeler, which bears Del Boy's famous company logo: 'Trotters Independent Trading Co - New York, Paris, Peckham' was used from series six onwards. The lot attracted much interest at the auction as the van featured in a number of the classics episodes, such as 'Danger - UXD' and the one in which Del Boy and Rodney dressed as Batman and Robin.
