Comic Relief has announced that Red Nose Day will now occur every year. Previously the charity fundraising event was scheduled every other year.

Red Nose Day 2022 has been confirmed for Friday 18th March.

The charity says: "This year is all about YOU. The people who raise the money, and the people who are on the ground doing their bit. Because whatever you do, no matter how big or small, you can make a difference."

Appealing for people to get involved in raising cash, the organisation adds: "Bake up a storm, run a marathon dressed as a flamingo or dye your eyebrows red for the day. Whatever you do, big or small, you can make a difference. Register now for your free fundraising pack!"

A new set of plastic-free red noses have been manufactured to tie in with the 2022 event. The charity's website explains: "This year's Red Noses are our wildest bunch yet. There are eight characters to track down, including the lesser-spotted rare Nose, colourful Cam the chameleon."

Comic Relief was founded in 1985 by comedy writer Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry in response to the famine in Ethiopia. A live fundraising stage show following in 1986, whilst 1988 saw the first Red Nose Day telethon on the BBC. A second Red Nose Day was held in 1989, and the BBC has broadcast a show in March biennially since, with 2021's events taking place on Friday 19th March, raising £52 million in the process.

In total to date, with the charity's Sport Relief appeals included too, the organisation has raised over £1 billion for good causes.

Further details about Red Nose Day 2022 are expected to be revealed in February.
