Stand-up comedian Robin Ince looks set to host a new panel show in 2012... one which will be broadcast live.

The TV Archive Quiz is a new format currently being developed by producers, with a plan for it to air on Saturday nights in 2012. The creators describe the format as "a cross between a panel show and a fun quiz about years gone by". Each week two teams, comprising of two comedians each, will play the games related to archive TV clips.

If the show is given the greenlight, it will be broadcast live next year, allowing viewers to play along with the quiz at home. No further details are yet known about how this will work, but it is likely to follow the same model as hit Channel 4 quiz show The Million Pound Drop, which allows people at home to answer questions in real time on their computer.

The first basic run-through of The TV Archive Quiz will take place next Tuesday (18th October) at BBC TV Centre. Producers are currently looking for an audience to attend. They say: "This should be a fun chance to see the show in its earliest stages (there won't even be a set... just some tables and chairs!). Robin and his guests will take us through the funniest bits from recent history. You'll be part of a small audience in this very informal setting so it promises to be an interesting, informative and really funny evening." To apply for tickets see our free tickets page

If it is indeed commissioned, The TV Archive Quiz will be Robin Ince's most high-profile and mainstream presenting role to date. The comedian is probably currently best known for co-hosting Radio 4 science show The Infinite Monkey Cage alongside Brian Cox, for organising pro-atheism stand-up galas like Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People, and for his various Edinburgh Fringe shows.
