Host of new commissions announced
A number of new comedy commissions have been announced this week by various broadcasters. Here's a summary of the main new commissions:
The Jason Lewis Experience
BBC Three has commissioned a sketch show pilot from Jason Lewis. The new comedy star, who was discovered via YouTube, will be providing his take on famous people and unleashing his own character creations. Viewers may have seen the comedian on the BBC Comedy website, which has been showcasing some of his sketches. Watch
Watson & Oliver
Following a successful non-broadcast pilot recorded in March, the BBC has now ordered a full series of sketch show Watson & Oliver. Best friends since school, Lorna Watson and Ingrid Oliver - the stars of the show - are already well known on the live comedy circuit, and it is expected that this TV show will bring them to an even wider audience.
World Wide Robert
World Wide Robert is a comedy pilot from Objective Productions. Hosted by Peep Show star Robert Webb, the programme will be searching the web for funny news, tweets, uploads and more.
Sex And The Chippy
A female-centred sitcom pilot for E4, being considered as a possible companion to The Inbetweeners (pictured). The show is based around a Liverpool chip shop and will follow three women in their early 30s and recount their exploits over the course of a night out.
Fry & Laurie Re-United
Thirty years ago this autumn, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie met for the first time at Cambridge, and comedy history was made. This new UKTV GOLD special will feature the former double act reminiscing about their friendship, careers and sketches.
Happy Tuesdays
A collaboration between BBC Radio and Television, in which a series of new comedy pilots will be showcased on Radio 4. Happy Tuesdays feature shows starring Angelos Epithemiou; Justin Moorhouse; Will Smith; Olivia Colman and David Mitchell; and Tim McInnerny.
Micky Flanagan: What Chance Change?
A second series of the Radio 4 comedy show in which Micky Flanagan examines how his life has changed decade by decade.
Tom Wrigglesworth & Lucy Montgomery
Following the success of Tom Wrigglesworth's one-off stand-up show An Open Letter To Richard Branson, the BBC have announced they've now commissioned a new comedy show starring Wrigglesworth which will air in the 6:30pm slot later in the year.
Similarly, Radio 4 have also ordered a comedy from Bellamy's People star Lucy Montgomery, which will be broadcast in the 6:30pm later this summer.
