Two Pints and Peep Show creators join forces
Susan Nickson, the creator of long-running BBC Three sitcom Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, is teaming up with Peep Show writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong (pictured) to create a new Channel 4 sitcom.
The new comedy, written by Nickson and script-edited by Bain and Armstrong, is set to focus around female characters, but no more information is yet known about the project. According to Broadcast Magazine, the writers have been given a "blank sheet of paper" in regards to the brief and, despite not yet knowing the specifics of what the sitcom will be about, Channel 4 is confident enough in the writers that they're funding the project anyway.
The currently un-titled sitcom is being made by Objective Productions - the company behind Peep Show. Ben Farrell, Objective's Head of Comedy says: "It is early days but it will be a female, character-led sitcom. They are still talking about what ages the characters should be, where they should live, what they do for a living - but it won't be a female Peep Show. It might be the next Only Fools And Horses, or it might not work, but I'm sure [the writers] will be a potent mix."
Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong have recently finished writing a second series of The Old Guys, the BBC One sitcom starring Roger Lloyd-Pack and Clive Swift. Meanwhile, as reported last week, Susan Nickson has decided to not return to Two Pints Of Lager for its ninth series. The writer, who created Two Pints when she was just 18, is currently working on the above sitcom and a number of other projects, both with and without the BBC, after leaving the corporation last year.
